About United Humans

Lots of organizations exist to advocate for specific improvements to their country’s laws. The founders of United Humans support many of these organizations and their efforts, but wanted to take a more holistic approach to systemic change. In order to bring about the inclusive, equitable and sustainable future that Optimalism describes, we must counter the legacy of violence, exploitation, patriarchy and colonialism that is woven into the fabric of modern society.

So instead of looking at individual problems and proposing fixes, the United Humans approach is to collectively imagine the most ideal human society possible and then outline the steps to transition to such a society from where we are. We are designing this alternative civilization from a completely clean slate, with love and equality as the starting point, with optimal fairness as the goal and with scientific rigor applied to all decision-making. The more people and the more diverse the people are who contribute to this effort, the more successful it promises to be.

To that end, United Humans is:

  • conducting ideation, research and review of modalities of collective decision-making and governance, as well as public policy, designed to result in a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable society

  • creating opportunities and, as necessary, developing mechanisms for the global public to participate in such ideation, research and review

  • using the findings of that research to generate white papers, research papers and policy proposals for the benefit of academics, thought leaders, public figures and the media

  • producing informative, entertaining and inspiring content, based on those findings, for the global public

United Humans Foundation was formed in Vancouver, Canada, in 2022 by creative technologist, activist and futurist, Ollie Rankin and a small global group of collaborators. In parallel to a 20+ year career in the film and tech startup industries, Ollie has been championing cooperation, climate action and his vision of human destiny under the banner From the Trees to the Stars (a reference to his quote “Competition got us down from the trees, but only cooperation can take us to the stars”). After more than a decade of research and ideation, he began to formulate Optimalism as an answer to the culture of selfish individualism, greed and exploitation that is prevalent today.
